Foley spent the early years of his career at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), where he was a Principal Engineer in the Artificial Intelligence Consulting Group.At Digital he established and led a team specialized in providing optimal scheduling solutions Digital's worldwide customers.
In 1992, Foley left Digital for Gensym Corporation — a leading provider of real-time intelligent control systems.At Gensym, he brought to market "ReThink", a software tool for re-engineering and simulating business processes, that was subsequently adopted by customers including Xerox, IBM, and USPTO.
In 1996, Foley came to Japan to establish Gensym's Japanese subsidiary and became its Representative Director.
He left Gensym and founded Silver Egg Technology with Junko Nishimura in 1998.
